Our School Values and Classroom Rules

Autumn Term

Key Question: Did my family play with the same toys I do in the past?

In the Autumn term we learnt about toys that our families used to play with in the past. We had a visit from Mr B (Lady Bankes Toy Expert) who showed us lots of different toys from the past. We asked him lots of interesting questions and were amazed with the facts that we found out!

We created some toys from the past too!

Art: Self Portraits

We have been creating self portraits using soft chalk pastels. Then we have created Art pieces that have been influenced by Andy Warhol and Pablo Picasso.

Art: National Gallery Workshop

In November we were really lucky to have a virtual workshop with the National Gallery. This was based on a painting that we made a story about. We made sculptures out of clay and looked at all different techniques.

Key Question: How has nursing changed from the past?

We have been exploring the changes in nursing in the Autumn term. We have looked at three key nurses:

  • Florence Nightingale
  • Mary Seacole
  • Edith Cavell

We had a workshop about the life of Mary Seacole.

DT: Moving Pictures

We have been creating moving pictures using different moving mechanisms.

Science: The Human Body

We have been learning about the human body. We have been completing experiments surrounding our senses. The children have used their scientific enquiry skills to help them with these.

Maths: Place Value, Addition and Subtraction

In Maths we have been developing our place value skills, addition and subtraction. We have been using a range of resources to support our learning.

RE: Christianity

As part of our RE learning this half term, we visited two different local churches and compared them.

Computing

This half term we have been focusing on logging into the computers and learning how to use the mouse. We have been practising our drawing skills using different tools on 'Paint'.
