Geography

Geography and the study of the World around us is an embodiment of our school values, here at Lady Bankes Primary School.

It provides a great platform for the children to be Ambitious in their learning, Together with their peers to seek Opportunities, both inside and outside the classroom, Respecting both the environment and the people around it, to develop and extend their Curiosity to achieve an overall feeling of Happiness.

Our Geography curriculum promotes curiosity and empowers our children to become independent and resilient learners.

We always encourage children to provoke and provide answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world.

We will provide them with memorable Geography experiences and lessons that will develop the following essential characteristics of geographers:

  • Knowledge of where places are and what they are like, both in the UK, Europe and the wider world.
  • A developing base of geographical knowledge and vocabulary.
  • The ability to apply questioning skills.
  • Excellent fieldwork skills.
  • The ability to begin to express opinions based in knowledge and understanding about current issues and the environment.

We include all learners by encouraging and valuing their background when exploring different places. These include a variety of role play stories, ICT tools, maps and fieldwork to enable all children to access the subject.

It also enables children to develop knowledge and skills that are transferable to other curriculum areas, and are used to promote their cultural development.

At Lady Bankes Primary School we encourage discussion of current affairs affecting the physical world around us and seek to inspire in children a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people, which will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
